Federal Inmate Locator
Visit the website, and use the Inmate Locator tool to locate a Federal inmate incarcerated from 1982 to present.
The Bureau is responsible for the custody and care of sentenced Federal inmates, as well as a significant number of pretrial detainees and pre-sentenced offenders for the U.S. Marshals Service and the Immigration and Naturalization Service. The Bureau also has custodial responsibility for District of Columbia felons sentenced to terms of imprisonment. The website also provides visiting information; an explanation of the differences between Federal, state, and local inmates; and instructions for locating an inmate released before 1982. More general and historical information about inmates, such as the weekly population report, can be found in the About and News/Information areas of their website.
